Rapid Radar displays legitimate public meteorological data and identifies the authority behind each feed.
CANADIAN RADAR
ECCC / Meteorological Service of Canada
Public Radar uses ECCC RADAR_1KM_RRAI, a 1 km rain-rate estimate in mm/h. Snow station products use cm/h with a dedicated blue-to-purple snowfall colour table. Radar snowfall rates assume snow; consult Precipitation Type to distinguish rain, snow and mixed precipitation. Crisp rendering and larger map images preserve source detail but do not create finer-than-source radar measurements. Public station CAPPI and DPQPE imagery is also available. Published scans are generally refreshed about every six minutes.
A regional composite centred on the selected radar area, not an individual ECCC station product. Heights use thousands of feet above mean sea level. Coverage varies within the continental domain; blank areas may have no echo or no coverage.
HRDPS: 2.5 km through 48 hours. RDPS: 10 km through 84 hours. GDPS: 15 km through 10 days. Hourly precipitation, 2 m temperature and 10 m wind speed use provider grids; available times vary by product and run. Retained runs can expire. Split comparison matches exact valid times and units, with the same colour scale. RDPS and GDPS share model ancestry, so their agreement is not independent evidence of forecast confidence. No single model is most accurate for every place, variable and forecast range.
Day visible / night infrared cloud imagery, plus visible–infrared sandwich imagery with night microphysics for cloud detail. Contrast, brightness and smoothing affect display only; they do not add spatial resolution or identify storms automatically. Time and geographic coverage depend on the satellite; this is separate from the satellite base map.
Flash density on a 2.5 km grid in flashes per square kilometre per minute, not individual strike locations. Blank areas do not establish that an area is safe.
